To the kind individual that woke me up last night with the sound of crunching metal when you hit my neighbor's mailbox, I thank you for the tire tracks through my lawn. I know you probably couldn't avoid the ice coming down the hill and lost all control of your vehicle, and I thank God you didn't hit my tree or house, but couldn't you at least stop by at some point and apologize? The grass will grow back and I think my neighbor will get another mailbox, but whatever happened to personal responsibility?
Hopefully you weren't injured, and I think you weren't as you kept on going, but if you were, that might explain why you haven't stopped to apologize. If you want some of the pieces of your car that were left in my yard, stop by and I will be glad to give them to you. Luckily they aren't marked with part numbers to identify the make of car, otherwise finding you would be so much easier.

What time did this happen?

It was somewhere around 3:30 A.M. I think it was a dark colored sedan, although I was sound asleep at the time and caught a quick glimpse of the car as it drove off.

Too bad for you, your neighbor and the driver....![]()

DY I guess you should be grateful there is no real damage to your property.
It does suck though - considering there isn't much you can do at this stage.

Yeah, the fact that we didn't really suffer any damage and for that matter, neither did my neighbor when you consider the cost of a mailbox, is that someone doesn't feel the need to stop and apologize. I truly do hope that they weren't injured and they are probably embarassed by the incident.
They should be thankful they didn't hit my mailbox- I re-set it several years ago and the old school teachings of my father had me put it in about 2 feet of concrete !
As far as doing something about it, yup, not much one can do. However, any car that drives by with damage to the left front of the car is probably the offender.

They must not have been going to fast. I saw the marks in the persons yard and they did not go to far into it. That is a bad hill with ice on it. I guess your tape didn't keep them out. I noticed some of it missing. Have you ever thought of riding around to see if you see any hanging from a car?

Spent Sunday afternoon doing just that. The offending car must either have been in the garage or left the neighborhood. Being the car guy that I am, I had a hunch what type of car I was looking for. Needless to say, it will be easy to spot considering the impact with the mailbox and small bit of debris left behind.
The damage to the yard was minimal except that I have spent the last two years fixing drainage issues and a ton of money on seed and dirt and was just starting to get some good grass growing. I can fix the yard easier & cheaper than my neighbor's mailbox, I just wish the driver would step up and apologize. I know that the incident wasn't done intentionally.

I definitely found the humor in it and laughed as well. Truth be told, my wife wanted the tape down months ago! I keep telling her the grass is sleeping and I will take it down when it wakes up! I wouldn't be surprised to pull in the driveway one day soon and see it all taken down. I think I will replace it with some pink tape, just in time for Valentine's Day!![]()

I do have to say your yard is looking very nice. I am sure it was a pain in the A$$, both wallet and soarness. The previous owners did not do much to the yard and you can only hide so much yard with mulch. It is hard to grow any grass and keep in thick without a sprinkler system.
